6 July - Target 2020 ‘Design the car of the Future’ judging

Victorian students who entered this year’s VACC Target 2020 ‘Design the car of the future’ competition will find out soon if theirs is the winning entry.

The winners of the secondary and tertiary Design and the Model-making categories will each be presented with individual cheques for $3000, plus an additional $3000 for each of the prize winner’s school, TAFE or University.

Winners in the secondary and tertiary Essay categories will receive $500, plus an additional $500 for each of the prize winner’s school, TAFE or University.

“We were more than impressed by the standard of entries this year. All the shortlisted students have displayed an understanding of style and design, as well as taking into consideration environmental, safety and social issues,” VACC Senior Manager, David Russell, said.

“The entries were judged on Friday, July 2 and now the judges have the difficult task of deciding who the winners are.

“The judging panel was comprised of Richard Ferlazzo (GM Holden Design, Chief Designer), Brian Tanti (Autohorizons) and Neil McDonald (Herald Sun, motoring journalist). We thank them for their participation, knowledge and enthusiasm which we know rubs-off on the students. Our congratulations also go to parents and teachers for supporting the students and encouraging them to come up with such innovative and exciting concepts.

“While, at this stage, I cannot announce who the winners are, I can announce that, because the year 2020 is now only ten years away, the next VACC ‘Design the car of the future’ competition will be renamed Target 2050,” Mr Russell said.
